This article showcases the corporate social responsibility initiatives implemented by Empresas Polar, Venezuela’s largest food manufacturer and distributor, and its ability to survive the seizure policies of Hugo Chávez. The story of Empresas Polar provides a useful object lesson in how one company turned its CSR programs into a successful business defense against a powerful, predatory regime.
